Shaping the Future: Engaging Global Communities for Healthy Longevity

Late last year, the world’s population reached 8 billion, with older adults now outnumbering young children. By 2030, 1 in 6 people globally will be aged 60 or over, and by 2050, over 2.1 billion people will be in this age group.

To address this demographic shift, the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA) is leading the way in helping societies become longevity-ready. Their initiative, VOICE (Valuing Our Experience), engages people of all ages and backgrounds in meaningful discussions and projects that contribute to shaping a better future for everyone.

With over 14 years of experience, VOICE has built a trusted global community across six countries—including Singapore—empowering older adults to collaborate with businesses and share insights on product development and services. For example, their collaboration with Symphysis, a medical device company, helped refine a home-based treatment for patients with advanced illnesses, enhancing quality of life and care for families.

Through partnerships like these, NICA and VOICE are fostering international dialogue and innovation, ensuring that the unique needs of older adults are recognised and addressed in global markets. Their work demonstrates how intergenerational and cross-cultural collaboration can drive positive change and support healthy longevity.
